Paul's 10.0
Over the weekend, they gave the re-release of Paul's Boutique a 10.0. One of you wrote to me to see what I thought of that.
I'm fine with it. I think there's a clear cut case that the album had the sort of reach and influence that a 10.0 album should have. (And I can say that without, uh, um, actually ever having heard the album.) A definite 10.0.

Do svidaniya, Sophia....do svidaniya.
SUBJECT: Want to laugh a little together?
From: Sophia
I greet you!
What is love? ? It is the morning and the evening star.
I like the life, the water, starlit heavens and the flush of the sea at the night. I am a female, honest, good, loyal, sincere, reliable woman. I'm very real what you see is what you get, and that’s a good thing.
I am looking for a man who knows it’s alright to show and verbalize what you feel, not only to your significant other but also in front of friends, strangers and family members. In other words my ideal man would be someone who is very real all of the time.
I am here http://[removed]

(That's an urban legend, by the way: come on, dudes didn't stop wearing fedoras all of a sudden just because Kennedy didn't wear one to his inauguration. Hat wearage was already in steep decline by that time--which is why you don't see Don Draper lugging one around in season one. Besides, not only did Kennedy actually wear a hat at his inauguration, he wore a giant goofy top hat.)

A Modest Proposal for the Publishing Industry
This week the New York Times ran a surprisingly hilarious op-ed proposing a literary bailout.

The Diluted Mystery of Absinthe
The NY TIMES calls bullshit on absinthe.
If absinthe were a band, it would be Interpol, third-hand piffle masquerading as transgressive pop culture. If absinthe were sneakers, it would be a pair of laceless Chuck Taylors designed by John Varvatos for Converse. If it were facial hair, it would be the soul patch. If absinthe were a finish on kitchen and bath fixtures, it would be brushed nickel.
Wait, what? Slow down...

MOMA is doing a couple of interesting things with bananas. First is
the Banana Bunker, which protects your banana from being squished in
transit:
Though, as others have pointed out, it doesn't protect your banana so
much as transform it into dildo.
(Also, is banana squishage that significant of a problem? So much so
that the Museum Of Modern Art had to tackle it?)
Next is the Banana Stopper:
Ha ha! It's a real-world representation of those cartoon banana peels!
You know, those banana peels that were always getting wedged under
doors and holding them open!
I love the Germanic product explanation: "Slide the banana peel under
the door to hold it open and amuse those who enter." Ha ha! Thanks,
Mr. Spock!
